A Preliminary Model for Real-Time Scheduling with a CPU and a GPU as a Co-Processor

Abstract:
Graphics processors are capable of performing rendering of graphics scenes of course. But today, they can also be programmed for non-graphics applications and achieve impressive performance. The recently launched Fermi processor from NVIDIA exemplifies this; it has a peak-performance exceeding 1 Teraflop, almost one thousand times greater than the performance of a normal desktop processor. In order to create a real-time scheduling theory for computers that that use graphics processors however, it is necessary to first create a model of the scheduling problem. This paper provides such a model.
