On the use of Code Mobility Mechanisms in Real-time Systems

The use of code mobility mechanisms has been mostly limited to non real-time systems, where the delays resulting from the use of code mobility mechanisms only introduce minor penalizations to the system. But, the increase of performance in hardware and networking technologies coupled with increasing computation demands from applications running in open distributed environments with soft real-time requirements, demand the use of code mobility mechanisms also with real-time guarantees. In this paper, we devise a generic model for code mobility mechanisms and provide formulations which enable to quantify the impact of code mobility mechanisms on an application response time.
