Here we describe our offering for the partner program during the conference days and further information if you want to explore Porto on your own here.

While the conference attendees will be working in the technical sessions, we will visit with their families and partners some of the outstanding sights you might miss when wandering around on your own. The offer is free of charge, but some entry fees may occur and the consumption in cafés and restaurants is the individual responsibility. We ask for registration to aid our preparation in a Google form, however, changes are possible even after the form has been submitted and we kindly ask you to inform us about a change in your plans via email ecrts11@cister-isep.info. (Note, that the social program in the evenings is separate to this offer and as such subject to tickets to be purchased via the regular registration page accessible via the left hand menu).

Tuesday 5th
Start 9.00 meeting at the registration desk of the conference.
Finish around 15.00
Guided city tour: walk through the city centre and visit the most important sights of the heritage listed buildings of Porto.
The church of Clérigos, the Church of Carmo and the Carmelitas convent including one of the world’s narrowest houses. We will climb the famous staircase of the Lello Library and admire the old prison Building (Cadeia da Relação),the main train station, São Bento, and the old city walls. Finally we will enjoy an awesome view from the terrace of the old bishops palace next to the cathedral.
Wednesday 6th
Meet at 10.00 at the stairs under the bell tower of the city council at the nothern end of the Aliados Square.
Finish around 15.00
A visit to the museum of modern art “Fundação de Serralves” combined with an enjoyable walk through their extensive gardens. The little tea house invites to sit and have a cuppa and the restaurant offers some light lunches.
Explore the “Castelo do Queijo” and walk along the sea side promenade of Foz. You might want to bring a towel and a swimming costume and stay at the beach making your own way back to the hotel or join other to take a ride on old trams and rattle back up the escarpment of the Rua da Restauração towards Aliados.
Thursday 7th
Meet at 10.00 at the stairs under the bell tower of the city council at the nothern end of the Aliados Square.
Finish around 15.00
Exploring the cities hidden treasures we will walk through the old quarters of the Baixa down to the river just to struggle our way back up again to the gardens of “Palácio Cristal” The art galleries and boutiques of “Rua Miguel Bombarda” will give us quite a different view of a modern and young Portugal in contrast to the old buildings and churches we have seen before. To chill out we will stop at a little tea house “Rota do Cha” and have a break in their quiet and tastefully decorated backyard.
Friday 8th
Day Trip to Braga, the oldest Portuguese city and one of the oldest Christian cities in the World
Start 9.00 meeting at the registration desk of the conference.
Departing at 9.00, returning approximately at 16.00
First we will visit of the Church and Sanctuary of “Bom Jesus do Monte” including a ride with the old elevator which is still “powered” by water. Returning from the “mountain” we walk through 18th century Braga and visit of some historic monuments like the Cathedral and the adjacent Treasure Museum, the Arch of Porta Nova and the Garden of Santa Barbara. We will also encounter some roman remains from the time around the year 20 BC when the city of Bracara Augusta has been founded and became part of the Roman Empire.
