Portugal
4, Apr, 2017 11:30-12:15 (45 minutes)
CISTER, Porto, Portugal

ABSTRACT:

Wearables and wearable technologies are evolving and growing rapidly into our daily lives. While first efforts in these fields date back to the late 60's at the time of astronauts suits design for landing on the moon, there is now a strong momentum for wearables to become ubiquitous and monitor daily or health, our activities and even our moods. In this talk, we will discuss the changes in paradigms that wearables enable and promote with respect to monitoring and assessment of human activities in sports, physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Current and future trends will be discussed and an overview will be given on the results of several R&D projects undertaken by the Bioinstrumentation lab of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research at INESCTEC.
