Barikisu Asulba
Asulba Barikisu Ahmed is a dedicated scholar and passionate advocate for Women in STEM. Currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, she also serves as a Research Student at CISTER Labs, specializing in optimizing machine learning and deep learning applications in embedded systems since 2021.
Barikisu's educational journey commenced with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology, Ghana. Her thirst for knowledge led her to pursue a Master's degree in Computer Science from the African University of Science and Technology in Abuja, Nigeria. With a multidisciplinary background, she delves into reducing resource usage in machine learning and deep learning applications within embedded systems. Her research mission is to enhance the efficiency and impact of these applications across various domains.
Beyond academia, Barikisu is an advocate for inclusivity in STEM. During her tenure at Regentropfen College in Ghana, she organized tailored coding programs for girls, emphasizing diversity and inclusivity in STEM fields. Her initiatives underscore her belief in the potential of every young woman, encouraging them to explore the boundless opportunities within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through mentorship and empowerment, she is actively shaping a more inclusive and diverse future in the world of STEM.
