R-Fieldbus Data Link Layer Specification

Abstract:
As explained in deliverable D1.3 the basic communication system of the RFieldbus system, is the PROFIBUS-DP fieldbus system. However, additions to the PROFIBUS-DP specification have to be defined, because of the multi media functionality and the wireless transmission in an RFieldbus system. This deliverable is related to the extensions in the PROFIBUS-DP lower layer. New sub layers are introduced which give the opportunity to guaranty quality of service to both PROFIBUS-DP related real-time traffic as well as to multi media related real-time traffic. Extensions to the PROFIBUS data link layer are necessary to support the configuration and the mobility of wireless RFieldbus devices. Furthermore an addition concerns the encryption of messages that are transmitted via a wireless connection. The specification is separated in a service part and a protocol part as usual in the IEC fieldbus standardisation. This document is the service part which defines the data objects and the interfaces of the data link layer extensions.
